Overview
The Diocese of Truro is committed to a vision for the environment to ‘Cherish creation, cut carbon and speak up’.
Introduction
We are looking to appoint an Environment Officer to support, enable and develop the work of the Creation Care group as it inspires, encourages and supports individual, churches and other Christian communities to cherish creation, cut carbon and speak up. To do this, in particular, by leading and running the network of Environment Champions and the Green Kernow Church Awards scheme.
Main Responsibilities
The focus of the role will be working in and with churches and communities to support and develop volunteers and to encourage and resource churches to make positive changes to cut carbon and enhance biodiversity. You will help share the Diocesan vision, engaging people across the diocese and inspiring them to make changes individually and collectively.
The Ideal Candidate
You will have a passion for the environment and knowledge of relevant environmental science, debates, challenges and resources. You must have excellent communication skills, the ability to inspire and engage, and confidence in talking about faith in relation to creation care. Experience of successfully leading, or working on, projects that bring about change in culture and behaviour is essential as is experience of working on issues relating to creation care, the climate and the environment.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone to play a key role in implementing our environment strategy and realising our ambitious vision.
This role will involve some preaching and preparing prayer and worship materials. It is an expectation that the successful candidate will have experience in and of the church (preferably but not limited to Anglican churches).
