Introduction
We are a charismatic evangelical church situated to the south of Reigate, Surrey.
We have strong lay involvement in all aspects of church ministry and outreach and are looking for a vicar to lead us deeper in our relationship with God as we seek to grow and develop our ministry into the parish. We are willing to try new things as we want to create a church that continues to be more contemporary and relevant. Our congregation and visitors describe us as a welcoming, friendly, supportive and encouraging church family.
The parish is situated to the south of Reigate, Surrey. It is partly urban and partly rural, the vast majority of the population of the parish (circa 7,300 comprising some 3,000 households) live within the urban area.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a charismatic evangelical Anglican with a pastoral heart who:
- believes in the authority of the Bible as the written word of God, is able to interpret it with wisdom and humility and communicate it clearly and lovingly
- has a vibrant personal faith centred on the Bible and on personal and collective prayer
- has good pastoral skills and a servant heart
- has a passion for serving God and sharing the gospel in the community and beyond
- is open to the leading, ministry and the gifts of the Holy Spirit within worship and elsewhere
- is family friendly and keen to expand the ministry among young families, children and youth
- is well motivated, dynamic, and is able to enthuse, encourage and support others
- will encourage and support female and male lay leadership, ministry and participation in all aspects of church life, helping people to grow in their faith and exercise their gifts
- is flexible and comfortable with a range of forms of worship including the informality and freedom of our main Sunday service
About us
Based on our current Mission Action Plan (2020-2024), which we have started to review and will revisit with our new vicar, we are seeking to:
- grow faith among our church community;
- nurture and grow faith in children and young people;
- reach out to the local community with loving service & to share our faith; and,
- treasure the world
We have a relaxed and informal style for our main Sunday service, as well as offering a more formal 8.45am service. There are groups for children that meet during the main service. Our worship is led by our gifted music team with a heart for Spirit-led worship. We also have a Wednesday Morning Service and a Cafe style, often Lay led, Spirit filled evening service on the 3rd Sunday of the month. Alongside these services we have well attended life group meetings and four prayer meetings each week.
Our current outreach includes: Open The Book, a local food partnership, Renewed Hope, Street Pastors, Fairtrade, our Veggie Plot, Sparkfish and International Needs. We are seeking to become more involved in the local community.
We have radically enlarged our church building in recent years adding a kitchen, toilets and a shower room and two large meeting rooms to the rear of the church building. We have ongoing projects to improve our facilities so that we will have a comfortable, well equipped modern space that can be more beneficial to, and productive in, our local community.
The vicar is the only full-time paid role at St Luke’s, but we are blessed with an experienced and highly devoted team of volunteers. Of these, two are licensed assistant priests. We also have a SPA (Southwark Pastoral Auxiliary - a pastoral worker), who enables and supports the pastoral work within the parish.
