Introduction

The parish of South Beddington and Roundshaw, a suburban parish with a mixed population of about 15,000 in the diocese of Southwark, aims to serve God in accordance with our mission statement -  Open Doors, Open Hearts and Open Minds   -  and we are currently seeking an incumbent who can help us achieve this.

Two churches with distinct traditions and styles, yet one overarching community parish feel, await the successful candidate. St Michael and All Angels’ is an Anglo-Catholic church, complete with vestments, robed choir, and servers; St Paul’s, meanwhile, is a modern/liberal catholic church with an informal style of worship, whose diverse congregation is mainly drawn from the neighbouring Roundshaw Estate. Both churches are welcoming, friendly, and inclusive and are embedded within actively involved local communities. They present an exciting and varied parish for any prospective incumbent.

Our new vicar will also be involved in a joint mission plan with Springfield Church, who worship within the St Paul’s church building in the charismatic style, in accordance with a Bishop’s Mission Order currently in place.

Main Responsibilities

We seek a vicar who is a good communicator and listener, who can serve our parish and the distinctive needs of our two churches.

In particular, we pray that God will call someone to us who will:

  • Support our Anglo-Catholic worship across the parish and the musical tradition of St. Michael’s
  • Promote our collaborative approach to lay team leadership
  • Nurture our work with children and young people
  • Aid us to grow our relationship with our local community and schools
  • Relish the challenge of working across a diverse parish
  • Enjoy being our vicar

If this multifaceted role in a varied parish interests you, then please apply.

We have a policy in Southwark Diocese that to be appointed to an incumbent status post, a priest must have served a title post in an Anglican church in the British Isles. We aim to be a diverse and truly representative Diocese, and particularly welcome applications from women and people of UKME heritage.
