Introduction

Are you a natural communicator with a passion for storytelling? Do you have strong editorial and multi-media skills with an excitement for creating engaging and creative content?

If so, then you could be the person we are looking for to help us bring to life our story as a Church of England family of faith across Medway, north and west Kent, and the London Boroughs of Bromley and Bexley.

The Communications Officer is a new and exciting role that will support increased understanding and engagement with the key priority issues and areas of work for the Diocese, as expressed through our Called Together vision.

Key Responsibilities

Working alongside other members of the Communications team, the post-holder will:

  • Develop and deliver lively, accessible, and engaging content across a range of channels.
  • Work collaboratively with different Diocesan teams on campaigns and media initiatives across the Diocese
  • Create good relationships with parishes and church role-holders, to support them in communicating their own mission and ministry to their local audiences, including local media.

Please see the job description for a full list of responsibilities

The Ideal Candidate

A dynamic content creator, you will work with, and report to, the Communications Manager and Bishops’ Media Adviser, helping capture and share stories and information across a range of traditional and creative media, including video, digital, printed publications (such as the diocesan magazine), and other activities and initiatives.

With an understanding of social media and an awareness of new communication trends and techniques, you will bring fresh ideas to the table, leveraging your creative and journalistic skills to help shape content and messaging, improving our impact with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

A team player, with an ability for independent working, you will build excellent relationships with clergy and other local church leaders, to help draw out their stories.

Due to the nature of this role, some out of hours working may be required, as well as ability to access all parts of the diocese.

If you are interested in this role but feel that you don’t quite meet all of the requirements and are still developing your skills and experience in this field, please get in touch by contacting recruitment@rochester.anglican.org for an informal conversation.  We may consider candidates with less experience for a reduced salary and the opportunity to undertake some professional training.

What we can offer:

  • Flexible working, Hybrid working and TOIL
  • Generous holiday entitlement
  • Contributary pension scheme
  • Annual subscriptions and memberships
  • Access to an Employee Assistance programme and counselling service

The Diocese is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. All post holders and volunteers are expected to share this commitment.

The wider a group’s diversity, the smarter, wiser, and more compassionate and creative its decision making becomes.

We are committed to achieving diversity throughout our Diocese by seeking UKME/GMH colleagues and those from a wide-range of backgrounds, to help us create a culture of inclusion and belonging.

Closing date for applications: Sunday 24 March 2024

Interviews will be held week commencing: 8 April 2024

If you have any questions about the role or application process, please contact the HR department at recruitment@rochester.anglican.org
