Introduction

House for Duty Incumbent of Laughton, Ripe and Chalvington

The Bishop of Chichester is looking for an incumbent with the drive and pastoral heart to pursue the presence of Jesus within these rural villages. Offered is an attractive 4 bed Rectory in a highly sought after position, east of Lewes. This role may equally suit a priest with a young family or someone lately retired. The 13th Century churches lie within 4 miles of each other. There is a dedicated team - Wardens, Treasurer, secretary and PCC. An energetic Parish Administrator with useful local knowledge was appointed this summer. Ripe and Chalvington could be considered one village, so close knit is the congregation and geography. Reorganised recently, this benefice offers great potential for mission with a significant influx of young families plus some new development in the last few years.

The appointed person will need to:

•Invigorate and be creative with fresh expressions of liturgy

•Have the warmth and self-confidence to mix with villagers and ‘meet them where they are’

•Enjoy the rhythms of rural village life

•Connect with the village school

•Be a holistic thinker who can balance the needs of traditional worshippers and those who prefer a more informal style

•Convey the vital role of these Medieval churches as both spiritual sanctuary and significant amenity space.

•Steward resources wisely

Parish profile is available on our website or from the Appointments Secretary, Imogen Robins at applications@chichester.anglican.org.

For an informal conversation contact the Acting Archdeacon, Sam Carter at snccarter@live.com
