Introduction

Position Description

Seeking a Priest in Charge for the semi-rural parish of Otford (Shoreham Deanery, Kent). This is a full time appointment.

About our Parish and Church

St Bartholomew's Church is located in the centre of the village of Otford (population approximately 4000), within the Diocese of Rochester.

Otford is a lively and beautiful village with an extensive range of clubs, societies and organisations, as well as a Post Office, public library, medical centre, pharmacist, dentist, local shops and places to eat.  Otford has a primary school and two preparatory schools, and the Sevenoaks area has a variety of secondary schools.

St Bartholomew's Church is a grade 1 listed building with a church centre attached providing flexible meeting space, along with the church office, toilets and a kitchen area. The Church Hall is located away from the church in the centre of the High Street.

The church offers a strong ministry team and parish administrator, along with thriving children and youth work, with groups for all ages.

Worship follows a broad pattern supported by choir and organist with a band playing at the monthly All Together worship services. Messy Church and Healing Services form part of the worship pattern.

The Vicarage is in the centre of the village, 100 yards from the church. Built in the 1960s, a 5-bedroomed house with detached double garage and spacious garden.

Please see the Parish Profile for full details on all this lively and attractive Parish has to offer.

The IDEAL CANDIDATE is someone who:

  • will confidently and prayerfully lead us in our broad pattern of worship
  • is a missional leader who will take an active role in shaping the future of the Deanery
  • be a visible and approachable leader within our community, building on firm foundations with the other churches, schools and groups
  • has a pastoral heart and engages well with people
