Introduction

We are seeking a strong, collaborative and experienced leader for the parish of Shortlands (Beckenham Deanery, London Borough of Bromley).

The ideal candidate will be someone who:

* Is a confident, experienced and collaborative leader who commands respect, discerns people's gifts and deploys individuals to enable the church to thrive.
* Is committed to nurturing the diversity of Anglican worship within a central tradition.
* Communicates effectively in preaching and leading worship, and in a way that is attractive and authentic to all age groups.
* Demonstrates a living faith, seeking the will of God for their life and for the life of the church, empowering people to lead within the framework of our Vision and Mission.
* Is committed to encouraging diversity, welcoming all inclusively and equally.
* Embraces and responds sensitively and flexibly to the needs and challenges of the community.

The wider a group’s diversity, the smarter, wiser, and more compassionate and creative its decision making becomes. We are committed to achieving diversity throughout our Diocese by seeking UKME/GMH colleagues and those from a wide-range of backgrounds, to help us create a culture of inclusion and belonging.

About us:
Shortlands is a leafy, residential suburb (pop. 8,000) located between Beckenham and Bromley.  It has a small number of shops, but is only a 20-minute walk from the bustling town of Bromley with its shops and restaurants.  There are very good rail links to Central London from Shortlands or Bromley railway stations.

The church was completely rebuilt in 1955 after the original building was damaged beyond repair in WWII.  Both the church building and its grounds & memorial garden are a well-loved feature in the community.  An enthusiastic sub-committee of the PCC, the Future Generations Project, has been formed to consider (along with the DAC) how we can best use our buildings and grounds to support our vision for our future mission.

Worship follows a central tradition with a robed choir and a range of services.  Music is an important element to our worship; there is a robed choir founded in choral tradition which sings every Sunday morning and Choral Evensong once a month.

We are proud of our work and outreach in the community, which is extensive and well supported.

The Vicarage is a 4-bedroomed detached property to the north side of the church.

Our new incumbent will be supported by an experienced Ministry Team and an enthusiastic PCC.  Our paid part-time employees include a Parish Administrator, Director of Music and Junior Church Coordinator.
