Introduction

The Rivers Partnership was formed as a plurality when the Derwent Ings Benefice of 5 churches and the Escrick Group of 3 churches joined together in January 2022.

Situated in the Vale of York, just a few miles south east of the city, these beautiful rural communities have easy access to amenities on the outskirts of York and in the city centre. Bordered by the river Ouse to the west, the river Derwent to the east and with the Pocklington Canal to the south there are countryside walks, nature trails and water sports on your doorstep as well as an area steeped in history.

As a diocese, we are striving to be a people who are ‘Living Christ’s Story’. As The Rivers Partnership, our vision is :

  • Living Christ’s Story by being welcoming, accepting and involving - Everyone should feel welcome to be part of our Church family irrespective of age, background, circumstance, race, gender, sexuality, disability or neurotypicality.

  • Living Christ’s Story by being accessible - We would like to be accessible to those with mobility issues, hearing loss, visual impairment, people with mental health conditions and those on the autistic spectrum, and we aim to be both dementia-friendly, and young children-friendly Churches and we are working towards this in different ways.

  • Living Christ’s Story by being a safe place - Our Churches take seriously our duty to ensure everyone is safe in our community We commit to doing everything we can to ensure that Church is a safe, non-judgemental and friendly place for everyone, where people can thrive, grow spiritually and play a full part in the Church’s life

  •  Living Christ’s Story by celebrating difference - A healthy church is somewhere where  everyone doesn’t look the same! Just like a family. Difference is good, something to be celebrated, and something that helps us all to grow.

Our worship and our connection with the people of our village communities are at the centre of our priorities and we want to offer a genuine and inclusive welcome to all. We offer a range of different services across the Rivers Partnership. Our pattern of services includes 8am, 8.30am, 9am, 10.30am, 4pm, 6pm and 6.30pm across the month. Our worship ranges from ‘high church,’ to ‘low church,’ and everything in between. Some are quiet and reflective some are noisy and interactive. Some are traditional and some are alternative. Hopefully something to suit everyone!

We value our strong links with our local schools, local organisations and friendly communities. Many of your beautiful churches date back to the 14th century, but are well maintained and adapted for use as community spaces, where possible.

The post includes an attractive 4-bedroom vicarage in the village of Escrick set in a large mature garden, close to York and Selby with good links to the A64 and A19

We are praying for an Assistant Minister who:

  • Will work in partnership with our vicar, Lay & Authorised Ministers and all office holders, to deepen and extend the shared life and ministry of the Partnership.

  • Will be an encouraging, prayerful and visible pastoral presence within our caring and active village communities across the Partnership.

  • Has a genuine desire to communicate and connect joyfully with people of all ages.

  • Will contribute to the nurture of our good relationships with our local schools.

  • Wants to work with us to make God’s love visible in our communities.

  • Will play an active part in the sacramental ministry of the parishes, including occasional offices

The Diocese of York

The Diocese of York, led and guided by Archbishop Stephen Cottrell, takes in much of North and East Yorkshire. As the largest diocese in England, geographically, the area is very diverse, featuring a multitude of needs and opportunities. This includes the bustling urban centres of York, Hull and Middlesbrough, the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors National Park, and the incomparable Yorkshire Coast; as well as areas of deprivation in some of our urban and smaller rural and coastal communities.

Our mission and ministry relies on thousands of people - lay and ordained, volunteer and paid. Our diocesan teams provide a wide range of support services to our mission and ministry, including lifelong learning for ministry, the care of church buildings, and safeguarding. Together, we are striving to be a people who are ‘Living Christ’s Story’. We want to be a simpler, bolder, humbler church which in its diversity reflects the communities it serves. We are bringing renewed focus and fresh energy to achieving our aims:

  • Becoming more like Christ

  • Reaching those we currently don't

  • Growing in discipleship, influence and numbers

  • Transforming our finances and structures

Our approach is aligned with a commitment to the best of our parochial inheritance and to the poorest communities, and to the financial realities we face.

Under current immigration rules, it is not generally possible for us to appoint clergy who are not already eligible to work in the UK.

Appointment is subject to a satisfactory Enhanced DBS disclosure.
