Introduction

The Church of the Good Shepherd

Deanery of Brighton

The Bishop of Chichester is seeking an energising and pastorally minded vicar to drive forward the vision for this single parish benefice just outside the centre of Brighton. The friendly and welcoming church family worships in a Grade II listed church that has benefited from significant investment in recent years.

The Good Shepherd is served by a self-supporting associate vicar and an enthusiastic and able ministry team. The Church has recently been awarded a generous grant to enable a youth worker to be employed; overseeing this exciting appointment will be a key task for the new vicar.

The five bedroom detached vicarage has a large garden and is situated next door to the church.

The next vicar will be a priest who:

  • will actively foster a culture of mission through imaginative and clear articulation of the gospel and by building community;
  • can inspire a rich sacramental worship focused on the eucharist, and build on the church’s strong musical tradition;
  • is committed to harnessing the parish’s enthusiasm to develop work with families and young people;
  • has the ability to lead a committed and able team of lay and ordained colleagues;
  • possesses a mature faith and good judgement, able to recognize and encourage the gifts of others;
  • displays a settled and evident commitment to prayer and personal growth;
  • will bring pastoral wisdom and a warm approachability to the role.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a growing church at the heart of an interesting and diverse part of Brighton.

For an informal conversation, contact the acting archdeacon, Revd Sam Carter (sam.carter@chichester.anglican.org or 01273 400260).
