Vicar of St Swithun’s, Hither Green (Half stipend)
St Swithun’s, Hither Green are searching for a new vicar.
We are a friendly and growing congregation in Hither Green, a lively corner of South-East London. We’re looking for someone to continue to challenge and inspire us on the next stage of our journey.
St Swithun’s comes from the Anglo-Catholic tradition, although (especially since the pandemic) we’ve moved into a more informal approach to Anglo-Catholicism. We aim to be a church that is welcoming to all, and are members of Inclusive Church.
We are looking for someone who will:
- inspire us with teaching that connects to the issues of contemporary life and doesn’t shy away from difficult issues;
- keep growing our successful Sunday School and Youth Group;
- maintain and grow our connections with the community of Hither Green;
- value our ministry team and PCC, working in partnership with them and strengthening the lay leadership;
- help us look to make the most of our beautiful building.
You will be assisted by a ministry team comprising a Reader, a PTO Priest, a permanent Deacon and the Sunday School Leader. The church has a growing congregation, with 109 currently on the electoral roll. In 2022 we had 13 candidates for confirmation, a mixture of adults and young people. Our youth ministry seems to have survived covid better than in many churches and maintaining it is very important to us.
The Church is a large late-Victorian brick building, which is a very visible presence on Hither Green Lane.
We offer a large vicarage with an extensive garden.
