Introduction

Purpose
To effectively develop and manage a portfolio of micro-grants, provide support to grant holders and to facilitate the delivery of quality projects on time and on budget.

Key responsibilities
• Develop and implement transparent, timely and effective grants management processes.
• Contribute to the creation of application, assessment, and post award management materials and to the development of all aspects of new funding programmes.
• Undertake assessment of applications and present recommendations for decision-making. Provide necessary papers in good time and convene the Micro-Grant Award committee.
• Working with colleagues coach and support grant holders in the management of their activities.
• Collect, write and review and collate reports for submission to West Midlands Racial Justice Unit (WMRJU) Director and WMRJU Board. Collect “narratives” from participants for inclusion in annual and other reports.

Accountability and Working Relationships
• Accountable to the WM Regional Racial Justice Unit Project Manager;
• Works closely with all members of the WMRJU Team;

Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning
• With the support and guidance of the WMRJU Project Manager ensure that all projects have effective Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) plans in place;
• Provide guidance to partners on their MEL plans and the data/evidence requirements of the programme;
• Carry out monitoring visits to grant holder institutions.
• Build positive and trusting relationships with grant holders and other key stakeholders;
• Assist in developing new or updated resources and toolkits for partnerships, and the delivery of coaching sessions and workshops;

• Undertake other tasks that may be requested by the line manager.

Person Specification

We are looking for someone who:

Essential
  • Is passionate about seeing people from Global Majority Heritage/UK Minority Ethnic (GMH/UKME) backgrounds realise their full potential in God’s mission and the Church’s ministry;
  • Is excited to work within the vision for the project;
  • Has experience of project management, especially of working on micro-grants;
  • Possesses a good understanding of and has experience of financial management and reporting;
  • Posseses good verbal and written skills and able to communicate effectively with a broad range of colleagues, partners and stakeholders;
  • Is computer literate with high skills using Microsoft Office, or similar.
  • Has excellent interpersonal skills with good intercultural sensitivity and awareness - A natural mentor to others.
  • Is a motivated self starter, able to meet deadlines, work on own initiative and consult as appropriate.
  • Is supportive of the Church of England and a willingness to work within its frameworks.
  • Has the ability to travel the length and breadth of the six dioceses of the project

Desirable
  • Has experience working within a church or charity environment.
  • Project Management qualifications

Terms & Conditions 
This is a fixed-term contract until June 2027.

Hours:  Full-time 35 hours (5 days) per week. Some weekend/evening work may be required, for which the equivalent time may be taken back from standard working hours. We are happy to consider requests for flexible working, and please do mention in your application if you would be interested in looking at alternative working hours.

Salary and Pension: Salary of £36,000 plus membership of the Church Worker’s Pension Scheme with 12% employer contribution
 
Holidays: 5 weeks per year plus Bank Holidays and 3 Discretionary Days between Christmas and New Year

Employer: Birmingham Diocesan Board of Finance

Location: This role will cover the six dioceses (Birmingham, Coventry, Gloucester, Hereford, Lichfield, Worcester) of the initiative and so travel will be required – a usual office base will be made available in one of the dioceses based on where the postholder lives and hybrid working will be available.
