Team Rector of the North Shields Team Ministry

Overview

The Bishop of Newcastle wishes to appoint a full-time priest to be Team Rector to the Benefice of North Shields Team Ministry.

Introduction

This is a parish with a large, diverse population and a vibrant community life. A new Team Rector is sought who can create a new profile for the churches in a town that is changing rapidly.  We are looking to increase the welcome and presence of the church, particularly since the challenges of Covid. Christ Church is a well-known landmark church with a high profile in the community for civic events and occasions. St Augustin’s is smaller, more intimate, flexible space for worship and community events. Worship in both churches is in the modern catholic tradition.

Main Responsibilities

Key to this role is working to identify the mission priorities of the parish. This includes enabling the current congregations to continue to deepen their faith, engage with the community and grow their participation in mission and ministry. Another main part of this role is continuing close links with the Church Primary School as well as strengthening other schools’ work.

North Shields is a key commercial and residential centre in North Tyneside with an ancient history but seeking to respond to current challenges through the North Tyneside Council project, Ambition for North Shields and the Fish Quay. There is also an opportunity to explore the possibilities of a new worshipping community at the Fish Quay.
