Introduction
We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and prayerful priest to be the next Rector of this busy, inclusive church set in leafy Chislehurst. While the parish benefits from open space and ancient woodlands, it has excellent rail and motorway links with easy access to Central London and other parts of Kent.
The ideal candidate will be:
- able to confidently lead us in a variety of worship styles.
- an effective preacher who can present the Gospel in an engaging and relatable way.
- theologically and spiritually thoughtful and supportive of our aim to be a fully inclusive church.
- compassionate and able to relate well to people of all ages.
- willing and able to build on our existing relationships with the local schools (including the Church Primary School in the benefice), and play a full part in our local community.
Our parish and church
St Nicholas Church was built in the 15th Century and is the original parish church for Chislehurst. It is Grade II Listed and situated within the Chislehurst Conservation Area. The open churchyard is well maintained by a team of volunteers, and includes a memorial garden.
The 'Village Hall' is located across the road from the church and is well used by the church family as well as the local community.
The parish is considered a 'commuter suburb' with a population of around 15,500. It attracts a number of families with its excellent schools, shops and restaurants.
Worship is varied; the current pattern of worship is outlined in the accompanying Parish Profile. Music has an important place in our worshipping life: we have a robed choir led by a professional organist.
We pride ourselves on our inclusiveness and diversity, and have an active engagement with the local community.
The Rectory is a 5-bedroomed Georgian-style property with a double garage and substantial garden. It is located in a quiet Close approx. 10-minutes walk from the church.
You will be supported by a large and active PCC and an enthusiastic team of volunteers and PCC Sub-Committees. The parish also employs a part-time Parish Administrator who has been involved with the church for a number of years.
