Introduction
Known to Yorkshire folk as ‘God’s own County’; is God calling you to rural ministry here?
With the uplands of the beautiful North York Moors to the north and the rolling hills of the Yorkshire Wolds to the south, Buckrose Carrs benefice is a welcoming and friendly rural community, keen to put our diocesan vision of ‘Living Christ’s Story’ into action.
The Buckrose Carrs benefice comprises of 6 parishes, Saint Andrew’s Rillington, Saint Martin's Scampston, Saint Hilda's Sherburn, All Saints’ Thorpe Bassett, All Saints’ West Heslerton and Saint John the Baptist’s Yedingham. We are blessed with the support of retired clergy in the area and a team of lay worship leaders, and offer a range of services and online material to suit different traditions. We organize a number of community activities to provide outreach into the community and established connections with our local schools.
What we need:
- To raise the profile of the churches within each parish by supporting local projects like the Community Fridge and Food Bank so the community sees the Church, not just as a building, but as a relevant and vibrant part of the community.
- To reach out to the communities around us through our Community Cafés, Warm Space, Quiet Garden Services and our News Letter.
- To develop stronger links with our schools, especially the Church of England schools in our benefice.
- To reach younger members of our communities and families through Little Fishes and other initiatives.
- To reach the older members of the community and the house bound through our ‘Bitesize Church’ and Morning prayer on our website – a series of short videos exploring different aspects of life, faith and the Bible.
- To further utilise our churches and church rooms and halls, as often the only public buildings in the villages, to reach out and offer new ways of engaging with our community
- To strengthen links with the other parishes in our benefice and neighbouring benefices and work closer together for the same aims.
We are looking for a priest who:
- Is approachable and engaging with all ages and will be part of an active Benefice congregation
- Is proactive in engaging with the primary schools within the benefice
- Is a visible presence within the villages and enthusiastic to participate in village events and bring these communities together
- Has the gentle powers of persuasion, innovation and prayer to guide us through the changes that lie ahead
- Will be alongside us to encouraging us in our personal spiritual growth
- In a Benefice, consisting of 8 distinct communities, is comfortable and supportive in delivering a wide range and styles of worship to suit all ages.

Our approach is aligned with a commitment to the best of our parochial inheritance and to the poorest communities, and to the financial realities we face.
Under current immigration rules, it is not generally possible for us to appoint clergy who are not already eligible to work in the UK.
Appointment is subject to a satisfactory Enhanced DBS disclosure.
