Overview
The Mission to Seafarers (MtS) is seeking applications for the role of Chaplain / Chaplaincy Worker to be based in the Port of Piraeus, Greece. You will offer spiritual, emotional and practical support to seafarers of all backgrounds and nationalities and this new role offers an exciting opportunity to be part of MtS’s important and growing work.
The Chaplain / Chaplaincy Worker is responsible for ensuring that MtS’s mission is accessible and that our service provision is appropriate. You will also be required to build and co-ordinate a pool of volunteers and, as well as representing MtS in and around Piraeus, you will partner with other maritime agencies. A priority for this role is better supporting female seafarers, including those aboard cruise ships, and so we particularly welcome applications from suitably qualified women and candidates who have a practical understanding of, and empathy with, the particular challenges this seafaring population experiences.

Our ministry is wide ranging and holistic with an emphasis on compassionate, practical action and an absolute commitment to working with those of all faiths and nationalities, always with the deepest sensitivity and respect. We currently have a presence in over 200 ports in 50 countries.
Main Responsibilities
The Chaplain / Chaplaincy Worker will visit ships on behalf of MtS, operating in line with MtS’s core purpose, the provision of “spiritual, moral and physical” support to seafarers and their families, of different backgrounds and nationalities; ensure that MtS’s mission is accessible and that our service provision is appropriate, including for female seafarers; and will provide support and the hand of friendship to all seafarers, with a particular focus on female seafarers.
The Ideal Candidate
Given our focus of better supporting female seafarers, we particularly welcome applications from suitably qualified women and candidates who have a practical understanding of, and empathy with, the particular challenges this seafaring population experiences. Candidates should also possess strong and adaptable interpersonal skills; be collaborative and inclusive and able to work as part of an ecumenical team; be empathetic, supportive and understanding with good self-awareness; demonstrate sound judgement, emotional intelligence and sensitivity; be culturally and politically aware; and able to remain calm and measured in challenging situations.
This is a full-time post, open to ordained and non-ordained candidates. MtS is an Anglican Mission, but this post is open to Christians of all denominations who possess a strong Christian faith and who have empathy with MtS’s Anglican roots and with the work and charitable purpose of our work.
