Introduction
"Devoted to Christ; dedicated to community"
Are you being called to be our next Vicar? We are an evangelical, single parish church set in a diverse suburb near the London/Kent border. Our heart is to seek the next chapter of God's plan for our church community and for our local community.
Location: Orpington is situated on the south-east side of London and is part of the London Borough of Bromley. The High Street with its many shops and restaurants is around a mile away. There are excellent rail links to Central London from Orpington or Chelsfield mainline stations, and junction 4 of the M25 is 5 minutes drive away. The parish population is approx. 6,400.
Our church dates from 1940, being built in response to a new housing estate the 1930s. The building includes two halls which can be combined to give one large space. There is a lounge area and a spacious catering kitchen. Downstairs there is a further meeting room and an art room. The halls are available for hire six days per week and are very popular within the community, with 10 regular long-standing hirers.
Worship: We have a variety of worship styles across our services, but overall we may be described as medium to low Anglican. Music is a blend of modern worship songs with some traditional hymns and is chosen alternately by one of the two worship leaders who head up the bands. The church organ occasionally accompanies hymns. Words of the songs and hymns are projected onto a screen.
The Vicarage is a 1950s 4-bedroomed property in good condition and next door to the church building.
The ideal candidate will be someone who:
- Is an inspirational leader, rooted both in the Bible and in prayer, and is open and sensitive to the work of the Holy Spirit. Further, he or she will have a pastoral heart to share the gospel in relevant and appealing ways to a changing society, nurture relationships, and encourage us to do the same.
- Is an enabler, encourager and a good communicator, but also a team player.
- Has experience in growing children’s and youth ministry, and in shaping and developing a vision in which we can share.
- Has a clear focus in making discipleship pathways more intentional, and is passionate about community-focused projects.
- Will inspire us to move closer to God and hear from Him about the things that He has planned for Christ Church.
In return you will find us willing to listen, to respond and ambitious to see the church grow.

The wider a group’s diversity, the smarter, wiser, and more compassionate and creative its decision making becomes. We are committed to achieving diversity throughout our Diocese by seeking UKME/GMH colleagues and those from a wide range of backgrounds, to help us create a culture of inclusion and belonging.
Interviews will be held on Thursday, 27th February 2025
