Introduction
The Diocesan Patronage Board seeks an Incumbent to lead this benefice in mission and evangelism, prayer and service.
The Astley, Tyldesley and Mosley Common Team (ATMC) is a united benefice in the Leigh Mission Community, Deanery of Salford and Leigh, comprising three churches with significant opportunities for mission and evangelism. As well as serving the local townships, it is located near to Leigh and Wigan. It offers ready access to both towns as well as to the centres of Salford and Manchester and the countryside around.
The new Incumbent will work with established ordained and lay colleagues across the three churches. There is a strong desire to work ever more confidently together, looking towards the prospect on becoming a united parish as well as finding more shared focuses for mission and evangelism.
St John’s describes itself as a welcoming church with a tradition of evangelical worship; whilst gently ageing there are families and young children in the church; St George’s is Grade 2 Listed parish church with a strong community focus and a strong desire to develop in numbers and depth, while St Stephen’s has recently moved from its church building, due to safety concerns, into the local school. There is also a local mission church established in 2023 in Shakerley and is led by a pioneer minister who is part of the team.
We are looking for an Incumbent with the following qualities:
- A collaborative priest, who can delegate and who can raise up and support lay and ordained leaders in a multi-church setting;
- A priest who is comfortable with a range of worship styles, is able to develop fresh approaches to worship, and has a love of outward-facing mission;
- A leader who is passionate about the growth of the Church in depth and number, and is excited about ministry in schools and among families;
- A good communicator with excellent organisational and governance skills, who is resilient, persistent and able to lead change;
- A prayerful, warm and considered person who will encourage the congregation to pray both individually and corporately;
- An incumbent who would take an active and committed part in the Mission Community and the wider Deanery.
This benefice is at a key time in its ministry as it seeks to discern their life and ministry individually, together and as part of Leigh Mission Community. A modern four bedroom parsonage is available for the successful candidate.
