Introduction
Vacancy for Rector of Aston-on-Trent, Elvaston, Weston-on-Trent and Shardlow, Barrow-upon-Trent with Twyford and Swarkestone
Thank you for considering this post. It is an exciting time to join the Diocese of Derby. The implementation of our vision, strategic outcomes, and priorities across the diocese's life offers challenges and opportunities for every post holder.
Are you an experienced leader with a passion for community engagement and collaborative ministry? We are seeking a Rector for seven rural churches in a beautiful area of South Derbyshire and someone who will:
- Thrive on connecting with local people and fostering relationships within and beyond the church.
- Be creative and open-minded, celebrating the deeply valued traditions of each parish whilst innovating new forms of mission and ministry.
- Lead inspirational worship focused on Jesus Christ that inspires the congregations to grow in faith and witness.
This role is ideal for someone ready to embrace the challenges and rewards of rural ministry, supported by dedicated churchwardens, volunteers, and engaged communities.
There is much to celebrate across these six parishes (seven churches), where the church still occupies an important place in each predominantly rural community. The diocese has set serving our local contexts as an outcome of our new diocesan strategy. Great opportunities exist to form new and creative partnerships between the church and the wider community across this benefice.
Specific Role Requirements
- Be a community leader, identifying and nurturing community partnerships that serve our local contexts.
- Develop a coherent and sustainable Mission Action Plan for the whole benefice, drawing out the distinctive identity of each church.
- Grow a vision for extensive and missional engagement with schools in the benefice.
- Work collaboratively with PCCs and Archdeacon to develop a sustainable pattern of governance across the six parishes that release the churches for mission.
- Foster a culture of engagement with the deanery and diocese, resulting in deep participation in deanery life (Synod, Chapter) and generous giving to the Common Fund.
